This guide covers the Red Pine Wood Ice Bath. A little routine care keeps the timber and the tub performing for years, and knowing what's normal saves you an unnecessary support email.
On first fill, minor seeping at the timber seams is completely normal. Wood absorbs water and swells to seal its own gaps within 24–48 hours. Leave the tub filled and monitor, only empty it if leaking is significant or continues past 48 hours. Resisting the urge to “fix” a new tub in its first two days saves a lot of unnecessary returns.

What's normal for timber
- Weathering and patina. The exterior develops character over time, grain variation, tone shifts, small surface checks. That's the material, not a defect, and it's excluded from warranty for exactly that reason.
- Movement with the seasons. Timber expands and contracts with humidity and temperature. Small, stable movement is expected.
Cleaning the timber
- Soft, damp cloth for built-up dirt.
- Never pressure washers, abrasive pads or harsh chemicals, they strip and damage the surface.
- Nothing chlorine-heavy against the wood; if you sanitise the water chemically, keep doses minimal (see water care).
Placement
A solid, level, drainage-friendly surface, ideally with some shelter. A spot that limits prolonged direct rain and harsh afternoon sun will keep the timber looking its best for longer. Ground floor, and check your floor loading if it's on a deck, a filled tub is several hundred kilograms.
When to actually contact us
- Seeping that continues past 48 hours or gets worse rather than better
- Soft spots or persistent dark staining in the timber
- Cracks that go beyond surface checking, or any fitting/valve fault
